AT THE CROSSROADS OF CIVILIZATIONS. For thousands of years, the Nile River has sustained human settlement in the region surrounding modern Cairo. Ancient Egyptian civilization flourished along its banks, leaving behind monuments such as the pyramids of Giza, which remain among the world's most recognizable historical landmarks.

Christianity reached Egypt during the early centuries of the Church, giving rise to a rich tradition of Christian scholarship, monasticism, and worship. Egyptian Christians, particularly those belonging to the Coptic Orthodox Church, maintain one of the world's oldest continuous Christian traditions.

Following the Arab conquest of Egypt in the seventh century, Islam gradually became the country's dominant religion. Cairo was founded in 969 and developed into a major center of Islamic learning, commerce, and political power. Over the centuries, successive dynasties and empires shaped the city's architecture, institutions, and religious landscape.

LIFE ALONG THE NILE. Today, Cairo is Egypt's capital and the center of one of the largest metropolitan regions in Africa and the Middle East. Its crowded streets, historic neighborhoods, expanding suburbs, and modern developments reflect a city where ancient history and contemporary life exist side by side.

Islam plays a central role in Egyptian society, while the country's substantial Christian minority maintains a longstanding presence through churches, schools, and community institutions. Religious traditions, family relationships, and hospitality remain important aspects of everyday life.

Cairo faces challenges associated with rapid urban growth, traffic congestion, housing pressures, and economic inequality. At the same time, the city remains a center of education, commerce, and cultural influence throughout the Arab world. In newer districts such as New Cairo, expanding residential communities and international connections reflect the city's continuing transformation.

ONE FAITH, MANY NATIONS. In New Cairo, English Fellowship Church brings together people from around the world under a shared commitment to following Jesus. With a vision of seeking Christ together in multicultural community, the church provides a place where English-speaking residents of diverse nationalities and backgrounds can gather for worship, biblical teaching, prayer, and meaningful fellowship.

Led by missionaries with roots in the American Midwest, the congregation seeks to cultivate a welcoming, Spirit-led community in the heart of Egypt's capital. Its ministry extends across generations, with dedicated programs for children and teenagers that emphasize biblical foundations, spiritual identity, and lifelong discipleship. Through these gatherings, the church seeks to help individuals and families develop a personal relationship with Jesus and grow together in their faith.

In a city shaped by centuries of religious and cultural history, English Fellowship reflects the global nature of the Church. Its community is united not by a common nationality or background, but by a shared faith in Christ and a desire to encourage one another in following Him.

WHERE THE NILE MEETS THE DESERT. Along the banks of the Nile River, near the southern edge of its vast delta, stands Cairo, the capital of Egypt and one of Africa's largest metropolitan centers. Surrounded by the arid landscapes of the Sahara, the city occupies a narrow corridor of fertile land sustained by the waters of the Nile, a river that has shaped Egyptian civilization for thousands of years.

The region surrounding Cairo has been a center of human settlement since antiquity. Just southwest of the modern city stand the pyramids of Giza, enduring monuments of ancient Egypt. Founded in the tenth century, Cairo grew into a major center of Islamic scholarship, commerce, and culture. Its history also reflects centuries of Christian heritage, particularly within the ancient communities of Coptic Egypt.
